Restart windows without restarting your pc

This works both with windows vista and xp.
so here's the trick..

Windows vista :

Select Start, then hover over the right arrow that is to the right of
the padlock icon until the pop-up menu appears that contains “restart”
as one of it’s choices. Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on the

“restart” choice.

Windows xp : 

 

Select Start. Select “Shut Down…”. Change the drop-down combo box under “What do you want the computer to do?” to “Restart”. Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on the “OK” button.

Clear Past items from the Notification Area

• Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
• Navigate to the following key:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify]

• Delete IconStreams and PastIconsStream values
• Restart the computer

 

Hide ur hard drives in XP thru cntrl panel

1. Go to Control Panel

2. open Administrative tools

3. Open Computer Management

4 Then Select Storage > Disk Management

5. In the right window it'll show u all the drives in u r HDD

6. Right click drive u want to hide & choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths.. " from the list

7. A new window will open showing u current drive letter..

8. Simply click "Remove" button & click "Yes" in d confirmatin message.

Error Message: "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator"

When you try to open Task Manager, the following error may occur:

Resolution

This error is caused if the DisableTaskMgr restriction is enabled. To enable Task Manager, try one of these methods:

IMPORTANT:  If this restriction was enabled in your system without you doing anything or without your knowledge, then it's highly likely that a Virus has blocked the usage of Task Manager in your system by enabling the DisableTaskMgr policy via the registry. I strongly suggest that you perform a thorough checkup of your system immediately. Steps listed in the Resolution section of this article helps you unblock the Task Manager, but that does not remove the Virus (if any) from your system.

Method 1

Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Download and run this REG fix and double-click it.

Method 3

• Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
• Navigate to the following branch:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System

• In the right-pane, delete the value named DisableTaskMgr
• Close Regedit.exe

Method 4:  Using Group Policy Editor - for Windows XP Professional

• Click Start, Run, type gpedit.msc and click OK.
• Navigate to this branch:

User Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options / Remove Task Manager

• Double-click the Remove Task Manager option.
• Set the policy to Not Configured.

Switch users with Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching disabled

It's not possible to switch users with Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching enabled. This tip tells you how to switch users with both Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching disabled. I don't support this tweak, nor any outcome arising of this method. It's one more XP tip.

Here are the steps:

• Disable Welcome Screen & Fast User Switching through Control Panel, User Accounts applet.
• Manually edit the registry and set AllowMultipleTSSessions=dword:0000001 in this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

• Now, "Disconnect" the current user using Task Manager, Users tab.
• Type in the Login name in the Classic Logon dialog and Login as other user.

Notes

• If you want to switch back to the previous user, repeat the same procedure from that user account.

• The Win + L cannot be used in this case to switch users. The only option is thru Task Manager. Win + L still brings up the Classic Logon dialog, but terminates the current session, unlike the Task Manager method.

"Turn Off Computer" option is missing from Start Menu

Problem:-

When you click Start Menu, the Turn Off Computer option may be missing. This is due to a group policy / registry restriction. To restore the missing option, try this - for stand-alone systems:

• Open Registry Editor by typing REGEDIT.EXE in the Start, Run dialog.
   
• Navigate to the following locations:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer

• In the right-pane, double-click the value NoClose and set it to 0.

Error message "A recently installed program has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching" while turning on the Welcome Screen

Problem:-

When you attempt to turn on Fast User Switching or Welcome Screen, you may receive a message stating that a program used CSGina.dll ( or any other DLL ginamsi.dll etc ) to disable the Fast User Switching and the Windows Welcome screen features. The exact error message follows:

This issue occurs if a third-party GinaDLL value is set in the registry, thus disabing the Microsoft Graphical Identification and Authentication file (Msgina.dll) automatically. CSGINA.DLL is a filter driver of Cisco Systems VPN Dialer program. The filename may vary depending upon the software that you've installed.

• Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT
